About
What is NSSLHA?
· NSSLHA stands for National Student Speech Language Hearing Association
· We are a locally certified chapter recognized by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
What do we do?
· We plan fundraisers, meetings and events throughout the semester that are catered to future speech language pathologists (SLPs)
· We help current Communication Disorders majors/minors with any questions they may have regarding courses and professors in the communication disorders department
Why join?
· Joining NSSLHA provides a great way to network with classmates, and it also expands your knowledge about the field of communication disorders
What have we done in the past?
· In the past we have held bake sale fundraisers for Meaningful Movements Inc., a dance studio for the intellectually and/or physically disabled, which allows its members to express themselves through dance therapy. We were able to raise nearly $200

· We hosted a toy drive in collaboration with NJSHA (New Jersey Speech-Language-Hearing Association) and Ryan's Toy Roundup with the toys being donated to the Passaic County Women's Center.
· We’ve had guest speakers from the Adler Aphasia Center come to talk about aphasia, a communication disorder that results most commonly from stroke or traumatic brain injury
· We’ve held meetings to discuss the Deaf community
· We’ve hosted jeopardy game nights, for communication disorders students registered in Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech and Swallowing Mechanism, in order to help them pass their exams
· We’ve supported the local Down Syndrome community by forming a NSSLHA team in the annual Buddy Walk, in which we helped raise over $500
